When I cast a hand, it sometimes has some air bubble holes in the fingertips. Can I mix a thick plaster paste to use to fill it in? If so, will it end up separating some time down the line? What is the best way to make repairs, the best way to avoid this in first place, and how long can I expect these type of repair to last? Thank you for any advice you can offer here.

You need to wet the spot you want to repair before you patch it and it will last forever. Mix it the same as the mass batch used to cast it and that will show less if you want to leave it unpainted. Clean up the patches almost immediately, using a sponge, sold by ceramic supply houses. Avoid air-bubble holes by chasing the air bubbles away when casting. One way is to vibrate the mold by tapping it, but often the molds are fragile, so do so carefully.

A very simple way to correct air bubbles in a plaster cast is with Spackle. It’s easy to use and it bonds great.
